Cats + Medications

  • Lufenuron is classified as an insect development inhibitor. Your veterinarian has prescribed this medication for the control of fleas.

  • L-Lysine is an amino acid used to decrease the severity of symptoms such as inflammation of the eye (conjunctivitis) caused by feline herpesvirus type1.

  • Marbofloxacin is a fluoroquinolone antibiotic. This medication has been prescribed to treat a bacterial infection in your dog. This medication should not be administered to small and medium breed dogs less than 8 months of age, large breed dogs less than 12 months of age and giant breed dogs less than 18 months of age.

  • Maropitant is a medication (technically a neurokinin receptor antagonist) that makes stimulation of the vomit center extremely difficult. In dogs 16 weeks and older, it is used to prevent vomiting due to motion sickness and to prevent acute vomiting which may be associated with many illnesses.

  • Medroxy progesterone acetate (MPA) is a hormone. It may be used in cats to treat behavior problems (i.e. roaming, inter male aggressive behavior, spraying, mounting), hair loss and inflammation of the skin. In dogs, it has been used for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia. MPA may be used for other conditions as determined by your veterinarian.

  • Megestrol acetate is used to postpone estrus and alleviate false pregnancy. It may be used in cats to treat behavior problems (e.g. inter-male aggressive behavior, urine spraying, aggression towards people). It has also been used to treat a variety of skin conditions.

  • Meloxicam is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent used to relieve pain and inflammation in dogs and cats. It is indicated for the treatment of osteoarthritis. Meloxicam has also been used to treat pain associated with surgery.

  • Methimazole is used to lower the amount of thyroid hormone in the blood. This medication will not cure hyperthyroidism, but will help control the disease.

  • Methocarbamol is used to relax muscles and reduce muscular spasms.

  • Methylprednisolone is a glucocorticoid used for many conditions. This type of medication is used to suppress the immune system in diseases like systemic lupus, to stop itching, to treat Addison’s Disease, to treat certain types of cancer, to stop swelling of the brain, to treat certain kinds of anemia and to treat many other conditions.
